Fone Forums Participant's Guide

We want you to get the most from your Fone Forums experience. Here are some simple guidelines to insure that you enjoy the full benefits of your participation!

  1. Get ready.

    • Print out your Fone Forums confirmation e-mail in advance so that you aren’t delayed by retrieving the call-in details from your computer or e-mail.

    • Plan ahead and decide on the location from which you will be calling.

    • Make sure you will be comfortable, have paper, pen, and any materials already printed or viewable on your computer.

  1. Check your telephone.

  • Make sure your telephone is in good working order. You might also consider using a headset or earpiece for your phone, which makes it easier to take notes and utilize printed materials.

  1. Be timely.

  • Dial in on time so you don’t miss important introductions and announcements at the beginning of each Fone Forum.

  • All Fone Forum time listings are shown as U.S. Pacific Standard Time (PST). If you are uncertain what time that would be for your location, find out at www.time.gov.

  1. Introductions.

  • When you dial in to a Fone Forum, the moderator may ask you to announce your name and city. Please wait for instructions from the moderator to make your introduction.

  1. Avoid the noise.

  • What you do affects other participants, especially if there’s background noise or interruptions on your end. Please avoid the following:

  • Speakerphones, which amplify small noises such as shuffling papers or creaky chairs, or may produce an echo on the line creating a distraction for all participants.

  • Cell phones, unless you are stationary and in control of your surroundings. If you must use a cell phone, use a headset to reduce external noise and make sure that you’re not traveling which may result in dropped calls.

  • Hold buttons. Some phone systems serenade calls placed on hold with music or announcements about your company. If you must step away or deal with an interruption, it may be best to hang up and then re-join the Forum.

  • Interruptions, such as co-workers, your second phone line, office equipment, machinery, children, or pets. A simple “Do not disturb” sign taped to your door can work wonders!

  1. Share the line.

  • There may be time during your Fone Forum for discussion and questions. Follow the moderator’s lead on when it’s appropriate to ask questions or comment.

  • Identify yourself when you want to ask a question or comment, and then wait for the moderator to recognize you.

  • Allow other’s in the Forum a chance to participate equally. Be courteous and don’t control the conversation.

With Fone Forums, you're just a phone call away from a better business and a better life!
